(FYI this is a repost) So you’ve gone ahead and decided to eat healthy. You've figured out what works for you – gluten-free, dairy-free, keto, high fat, high protein, vegan, whatever it is. Now the trick is making it stick. If you want to make healthy eating a sustainable habit, my number one suggestion, my I-promise-this-will-work-foolproof-solution is Keep It Simple! I always stock my pantry and fridge with a base of go-to staples. Among my favorites are quick snack grabs, nutrient-packed condiments, healthy dark chocolate, some packaged almond butters, all easily accessible and ready to fill up my belly with smart choices that work best for me.
I use these foods over and over again. Experiment a little and find the ones that work best for you. The easier you make it to just grab something when hunger hits, the more likely you will stick to your program. However, be sure not to sacrifice flavor! There are way too many good options for it not to taste good! Here are a few of my staples.
1. Primal Kitchen products are unlike any others that you’ll find in your traditional grocery store. They are packed with real, simple, quality ingredients—avocado oil, collagen, oil of oregano and apple cider vinegar—that contain no dairy, gluten, grain, refined sugar or soy. The mayo is great. Anytime I am cooking and something needs some flavor, I just load it with any Primal Kitchen Sauce to make it a real 10/10. Order yourself a bundle of dressings, condiments, or beauty package and use LO_FITT for a 10% off discount!
2. My second go-to snack option is Siete Grain-Free Tortilla Chips (nacho flavor to be specific). Because I avoid all gluten, finding the perfect chip has been a constant struggle. Siete is made with trustworthy ingredients, no multisyllabic chemicals on the label, a major tip-off that the contents of the package is actual food and not a lab experiment. Siete chips are made with Cassava Flour, Avocado Oil Coconut Oil, and Sea Salt, making them the perfect paleo-friendly option! (Some ingredients may vary depending on the flavor.) Love Taco Tuesday, but want to avoid flour? Siete also makes an AMAZING tortilla made with almond or cassava flour. They taste like a flour tortilla and a corn tortilla fell in love and had a baby. They’re also crafted with coconut oil to make them delicious! So keep it simple - mash an avocado, add, salt, chopped onion and garlic, and a squeeze of lime, and put it in the fridge before your next workout. You'll have that reward waiting for you when you're done and ready to kick back for a few chips and guac.
3. Savory is great but most of us also crave a little sweet reward now and then. Dark chocolate has a place in my heart and in my pantry because, filled with antioxidants, it is the chocolate of choice for sweet and savory dishes as well as afternoon pick me up! Just read the statement on the HU chocolate packaging - “We couldn’t find a chocolate that met our standards so we made our own” and you'll know you're in good hands. Their “behind the brand” piece on their website, that can be found here https://hukitchen.com/pages/about-us , just resonated with me so well. I've fallen in love with EVERY SINGLE PRODUCT they put out there. and you’re in luck because when you order from Hukitchen.com and use LO_FITT as a coupon code you get 15% off your order! Go experience what guilt-free deliciousness tastes like, I promise you will not be disappointed!
4. Justin’s Almond Butter is a love of mine I discovered in college when I was sitting on my bum after having hip surgery. I was addicted to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches at the time (my diet was still a less-than-ideal work in progress back in college), and I wanted a change up from the peanuts. I realized they upset my stomach, and weren’t the best nutritional choice for me. Eventually, since I was trying to heal as fast as possible, I cleaned up my diet, and that's where almond butter came into the mix. Since then, I've had the jars lined up in my pantry, or individualized packets stuffed in my purse, a perfect fix for that travel snack too!
So there you have it, 4 quality staples that are simply delicious and a perfect option to add to the repertoire of your new healthy eating kick! Enjoy every bite and let me know which one you like best!
